Salt Strong Alliance, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization recognizes Salt Strong Fishing Club Tampa Chapter (#2) for their Clams for Clean Water Initiative. It all began at the start-up of the Tampa Chapter and during discussions, Captain Mike Goodwine expressed the idea of establishing a super-powered conservation workforce to tackle Salt Strong-inspired conservation projects. And George Layton’s vision of creating a united force for conservation, comprised of dedicated Salt Strong Insiders, who could truly make a difference in Tampa Bay. Inspired by Captain Blair Wiggins’s Indian River Lagoon Clam Restoration Project and the success that project has seen since its inception, George Layton, Tampa Chapter Conservation Coordinator and Darlene Shuman, Tampa Chapter President created the Clams for Clean Water Tampa Bay Initiative.

Salt Strong Alliance, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization recognizes Salt Strong Fishing Club Sarasota Chapter (#1) for their various conservation initiatives. Rick Thompson, Conservation Coordinator has a passion for conservation and it is shining through with his recent involvement in the Oyster Catcher Mat Workshop the Redfish release program. Rick’s commitment extends to actively engaging in constructing vertical oyster gardens, and enriching marine ecosystems by installing them under members’ docks.
Salt Strong Alliance, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization recognizes Salt Strong Fishing Club Sports Coast Chapter (#17) for their various conservation initiatives. Meet Jim McKinney, the dedicated Conservation Coordinator for the Space Coast Chapter. With a passion for preserving natural habitats, Jim has spearheaded numerous clean-up efforts sponsored by the Sports Coast Chapter, leaving a positive impact on the local environment. He actively engages members by organizing monthly Trash-Bash events at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, fostering community involvement and conservation efforts. Additionally, Jim coordinates regular clean-ups of adopted areas within the refuge, working closely with staff to ensure ongoing maintenance. Ever the advocate for environmental initiatives, Jim keeps members informed about opportunities such as the Build-a-Reef program at the Brevard County Zoo, encouraging their active participation in furthering conservation efforts across Brevard County.
Salt Strong Alliance, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization recognizes Salt Strong Fishing Club Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter (#15) for supporting Andrew Cook, Eagle Scout and a Junior at UMS High School in Mobile, Alabama. Marc Thomas, Conservation Coordinator met Andrew through a local guide that came to speak at one of their chapter meetings. As a project for the Eagle Scouts, Andrew chose to install a split rail fence around the perimeter of the Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuary. Salt Strong Alliance donated $1,000 to help Andrew reach his $6,000 goal. In addition to Marc, several of the chapter directors including Josh Tipton(Tournament Coordinator) and Justin Mayfield (IT/Media Coordinator) helped Andrew and his team install the fence over 3 weeks. Andrew is an amazing young man with a passion for the outdoors and is very mindful of conservation and what it takes to keep our area beautiful and full of the things we love.
